Out of State Licenses and Certification

General Licensure Information

In accordance with local legislature and guidance from the National Council for State Authorization and Reciprocity Agreements (NC-SARA), Central Washington University makes every effort to determine whether or not programs resulting in professional licensure or certification are recognized outside of Washington State.

For both in- and out-of-state students, this is meant to be an informational process that may inform and impact degree, licensure, and practice decisions but it should not be considered unilateral legal advice. Both resident and non-resident students are encouraged to review the determinations and directory information below and to contact their local authority, as well as the CWU academic department offering the licensure, for more information at any time.

Students may also want to be familiar with the general terms relevant to the university's determinations before proceeding:

Potential Changes in Requirements & Relocation

Licensure information is reviewed and updated by Central Washington University annually. Students who plan to pursue licensure outside of Washington state should be aware that state licensure requirements are subject to changes at various times dependent upon state. While a program may originally meet the educational requirements for licensure, changes in requirements could impact the program's ability to meet any new educational requirements. We recommend students to always check with their state licensure board or authorizing body to confirm licensure requirements.

Prospective and current students should keep in mind that licensing and authorization requirements vary by state and that relocating during the course of a program to another state could impact whether that student can continue in the course, meet the eligibility requirements of that state, and/or receive financial aid funding. If students are considering relocating, they should contact their program director and/or faculty advisor to check for authorization and licensure eligibility requirements.

Non-Determinations and Additional Information

If a program intended to end in a student's professional licensure or certification is not listed above, Central Washington University has not made a determination regarding that license's out-of-state reciprocity. Out-of-State students are encouraged to check relevant local licensure and certification requirements. Other licensure requirements may include professional examinations, background checks, work hour allotment and experience fingerprinting requirements, etc.

Prospective and current student and faculty members can request a review and determinations for their program by contacting Online@cwu.edu.
