Giving Societies

Now is Your Chance to Give Back

Welcome to the Central Washington University Giving Societies homepage. Engaging with Central donors and alumni has always been our number one priority. With the addition of these four Giving Societies, we are giving donors, alumni, staff, faculty, family, and friends of CWU, the chance to give back with a bigger impact.

Central Washington University’s four giving societies celebrate our most loyal and generous donors. While each leadership giving society has unique membership criteria, collectively they highlight generosity, engage contributors, provide learning opportunities, and honor individuals for their commitment to CWU.

The 1891 Society

This group represents the founding year of Central and expresses appreciation for the significant commitment its members have made to Central through cumulative giving. Members of the 1891 Society have given or pledged $25,000 or more to CWU throughout their lifetime.

The President’s Society

This group recognizes annual gifts which have a significant and lasting impact in the Central community. Members of the President’s Society contribute $1,000 or more annually to any Central College, program, or department. These gifts are a mainstay of the university's operating budget and allow CWU to continue to pioneer bold and new ideas that shape how our students become leaders in the global community.

The Barge Society

This group, named after the first hall on campus, recognizes those who have made arrangements with Central to provide gifts through their estate plans or through other planned giving options. Acknowledging donors during their lifetime for future gifts to Central is the primary goal of the Barge Society. By notifying the University Advancement office of your intentions, you provide the opportunity for Central to strategically plan for the future with the knowledge that resources will be available.

Graduates of the Last Decade (GOLD)

The GOLD Society is made of graduates of the last decade who generously support CWU annually. The goal of this society is to inspire recent alumni to give back to Central, ensuring that future students enjoy an outstanding college experience. Central recognizes GOLD Society members for the impact their gifts can have on future students and the university by member benefits including VIP experiences at alumni events, donor recognition and special communication.

Scholarship Donors

Endowed and named annual scholarship donors receive special recognition from CWU by receiving personal thank you notes from scholarship recipients and an invitation to the Annual Scholarship Reception held in the spring. Scholarship donors at this level will also have a partnership with University Advancement to ensure donor’s intent is honored in awarding all scholarship dollars following donor-specified criteria.

Consecutive Giving Donors

Loyal donors are the cornerstone of Central Washington University’s success, providing the means by which CWU can carry out its mission to prepare students for enlightened, responsible, and productive lives.

In recognition of this important commitment, CWU honors donors for their loyalty, recognizing support on the anniversary of consecutive giving in five year increments. For every five consecutive years donated, no matter the amount, we want to honor and celebrate CWU giving anniversaries. Gifts of any amount to all areas of the university are counted towards consecutive years of giving which are counted by fiscal year (July 1 to June 30).
