Recreation Policies

These policies encompass various aspects, and by adhering to them, you contribute to fostering a positive and respectful environment for all members of our community.   • Recreation Center Policies
    1. All patrons must access the Facility using their CWU ID.
    2. Abuse or misuse of CWU ID will result in denied entry and possible loss of future access to the Recreation Center or other facilities. Memberships and lockers are non-transferable.
    3. All patrons are provided two complimentary guest passes per quarter. Patrons are provided with 2 forgot passes per quarter. Guests must stay with their sponsors within the facility.
    4. Food is not allowed. Drinks in closed containers are permitted.
    5. Please refer and adhere to the Photo/Video policy posted in the facility.
    6. CWU Recreation is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
    7.  Please be respectful of all participants, staff, and equipment.
    8. All music must be contained in earbuds. Outside speakers are prohibited.
    9. Report injuries, damaged equipment, or other safety concerns to staff immediately.

  • Waiver Policies

    All activities are voluntary and carry various degrees of risk or injury. Participants assume sole responsibility for any risk or injury that may result due to voluntary participation. It is each individual's responsibility to be knowledgeable of their own physical conditions when participating in any activity or event. 

    Waivers are to be signed yearly for these risks. 

  • Equipment Policies

    1. You must return all equipment you check out by the end of closing each day. 
    2. No outside equipment is allowed in the facility, except: bar pads, weight belts, climbing shoes, resistance bands, boxing gloves, hand wraps, yoga mats, pickleball paddles, badminton racquets. 

  • Dress Code Policies

    For your health and safety, the Student Recreation Advisory Committee and CWU Recreation have defined a facility dress code policy. The following articles of clothing do not adhere to the dress code policy:

    • • A top, shorts or pants, and closed-toe closed-heel athletic shoes, unless specifically designated for the area, are required while using all University Recreation facilities.
      • Appropriate footwear includes clean, non-marking, closed-toe athletic shoes with a sole and secured to the foot via laces or Velcro and includes heel support.
      • Clothing with offensive or profane language, design, or pictures may not be worn in any University Recreation facility and will be subject to removal.
    Thank you for following the policy to help ensure safe activities, prevent bacterial and disease transmission, take care of exercise equipment, and promote Inclusivity.
  • Family Policies and Family Hours

    The Recreation Center has specific guidelines for family members under the age of 18, to ensure a safe and enjoyable environment for all of our members. Listed below are some policies to help everyone who is eligible use the Recreation Center.

    Family Hours have been designated from 12:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. These hours have been established in order to provide Recreation Center Members the opportunity to bring their family to use the Recreation Center. Listed below are some policies to help everyone who is eligible use the Recreation Center:

    • Children ages 6-15 are allowed to join their legal guardian, who is a member, during Family Hours, for $3, for activities in the four court, track, or in the climbing wall. 
    • Children ages 5 and under are NOT allowed to enter the facility during Family Hours. (This is a health and safety risk for these young children.)
    • The legal guardian must be present and actively involved with the child in the chosen activity. (Instructional youth climbing programs are offered.)
    • A member may NOT bring children with them who are not their legal dependents. (Spaces within the Recreation Center can be reserved for private events for these types of gatherings.)
    • Guest Passes can be purchased for use during Family Hours, but each adult guest and each child guest must purchase an individual guest pass at the current rate.
    • Dependents age 16 and older are eligible to purchase a membership to the Recreation Center.
  • Cancellations & Refunds Policies

    CWU Recreation is dedicated to providing exceptional programs, services, and memberships and anticipates equivalent accountability in return. When a customer decides to register, the department commits to the preparation and delivery of facilities, activities, events, and/or services.

    Cancellation and a request of a refund can be made with reasonable cause and will be processed fairly, taking into account preparation, expenses, processing, and delivery of the program/service.

  • Climbing Wall Policies

    1. Every participant must read, understand, and complete the climbing waiver prior to using the Climbing Wall.
    2. All patrons must access the Facility using their CWU ID at the Climbing Wall terminal prior to climbing.
    3. In order to belay, all participants must pass the appropriate CWU Belay Assessment.
    4. Footwear is required at all times. NO BARE FEET.
    5. Climbing shoes may be rented at the Membership Desk and acquired at the Climbing Wall desk. Socks are required with rental shoes. No gear is allowed to leave the Climbing Wall, please leave at desk if you need a bathroom/water break.
    6. Loose chalk is NOT permitted. Chalk must be contained in a chalk ball and bag.
    7. Climbers may wear one ear bud during open bouldering.
    8. All personal belongings must be stored in cubbies or lockers.
    9. Bouldering without a rope is permitted up to the 15 ft. bouldering limit.
    10. Climbers must tie in with an appropriate figure eight follow through knot.
    11. Lead belayers and climbers must have passed CWU’s Lead Climbing and Belay Assessment. Lead climb allowed only during designated hours.

  • Weight Room Policies

    1. Please keep all bags and personal belongings in locker. Day use lockers are available throughout the facility. 
    2. Personal trainers/coaching not employed by CWU Recreation are not allowed to provide services in the facility.
    3. Clean all equipment with sanitizer spray and towel immediately after each use.
    4. Use of collars is mandatory.
    5. Spotters are always recommended. Please ask staff to assist if working out individually.
    6. Slamming or dropping weights at any time is not permitted.
    7. Re-rack weights, dumbbells, and bars after use.
    8. Keep equipment in designated areas. Never lean weights or bars against walls or mirrors.
    9. Use of powder chalk is prohibited. Liquid chalk is acceptable.

  • Multi-Activity Courts Policies

    1. Court schedules are posted in the hallway outside each court. CWU Recreation reserves the right to change the schedule as needed.
    2. Unless otherwise reserved for use, courts are open on a first-come, first-served basis. Court activities will be prioritized as listed:
      • Court A: Badminton, Pickleball, general fitness activities
      • Court B: Basketball, Volleyball
      • Court C: Basketball, Volleyball
      • Court D: Basketball, Volleyball
    3. All games are self-monitored. Good sportsmanship and proper conduct are expected at all times. The use of offensive language and profanity is not permitted.
    4. Equipment for court use must be checked out at the Membership Desk. Individuals with items not returned at the end of the night will be assessed a replacement cost.
    5. No outside equipment is allowed in the facility. For exceptions, please refer to the Equipment Policy. 
    6. Volleyball, Badminton, or Pickleball nets and poles are only put up or taken down by staff. Please ask for assistance from staff.  
    7. Facility Dress Code is required at all times.
    8. Grabbing or hanging on the net or rim is prohibited.

  • Boxing Area Policies

    1. Hand wraps and gloves are required.
    2. Personal trainers/coaching not employed by CWU Recreation are not allowed to provide services in the facility.
    3. No sparring or physical contact of any kind.
    4. Keep heavy bag under control. Avoid needless, excessive swinging of the bag.
    5. Do not hang from the heavy bag.
    6. Do not over tighten the speed bag deck.
    7. Report injuries, damaged equipment, or other safety concerns to staff immediately.

  • Locker Rooms Policies

    1. For your privacy, be courteous of cell phone usage in the locker rooms.
    2. Shower towel service is available at the Membership Desk. Please return used towels and towel cards to the towel drop location at the Membership Desk. Lockers are cleared out daily. Locks are not provided. 
    3. Day-use lockers are available for use.
    4. Lockers are available to rent. They are rented quarterly, for the academic year or annually. 
    5. Lockers must be cleaned out prior to expiration. Upon expiration a Staff member will remove your items and they will be held for 14 days before they are sent to Asset Management.
    6. Please do not leave belongings unattended or unlocked.
    7. Please be courteous when spraying perfume and cologne.

  • Sauna Policies

    1. Please keep modesty in this area at all times. 
    2. It is recommended after exercising to cool down before entering the sauna.
    3. Limit yourself to 15 minutes. Those feeling dizzy or faint should leave the sauna immediately, & consult a physician before returning.
    4. Exercise of any kind is prohibited in the sauna.
    5. Ages 16 and under are not permitted in the sauna.
    6. This is a dry sauna. Please do not put liquids on the heater.
    7. Tampering or covering the thermostat unit is prohibited.

  • Cardio Area Policies

    1. Find a staff member to change the TV channels. 
    2. Clean all equipment with sanitizer spray and towel immediately after each use. 
    3. Individual sweat towels are available for check out at the Membership Desk.
    4. Keep equipment in designated areas. Never lean weights or bars against walls or mirrors. 
    5. Report injuries, damaged equipment, or other safety concerns to staff immediately.

  • Functional/Stretching Policies

    1. Find a staff member to change the TV channels.
    2. Individual sweat towels are available for check out at the Membership Desk.
    3. Clean all equipment with sanitizer spray and towel immediately after each use.
    4. Keep equipment in designated areas. Never lean weights or bars against walls or mirrors. 

  • Group X Studio and Cat's Den Policies
    1. Schedules are posted daily outside of the Group X studio.
    2. University Recreation reserves the right to change the schedule for the Group X studio as needed.
    3. The Group X studio is available for use throughout the day, if not otherwise reserved.
    4. For assistance opening and closing the Group X studio, please contact the Recreation staff to unlock the room.
    5. Do not remove equipment from the Group X Studio. Please return any equipment brought in the the Group X studio to the designated areas.
    6. Registration before Group X classes is required. You can register at recreation.cwu.edu prior to each class. 
    7. The Cat's Den is only available for scheduled Personal Training session or programs.
    8. Personal Training sessions require an active membership and requires an initial consultation.

     

  • Indoor Track Policies

    1. Track spikes are not permitted.
    2. Walk in the inside lane, and jog/run in outside lanes.
    3. Running Direction: Mon., Wed., and Fri. clockwise; Tues., Thurs., Sat. and Sun. counter-clockwise
    4. Please do not spit on the floors or walls.
    5. Equipment from Functional Area may be carried on the track. Please put equipment back in designated areas. Never lean weights or bars against walls or mirrors. 
    6. Clean all equipment with sanitizer spray and towel immediately after each use.

  • Lister Tennis Facility
    1.  Courts are for tennis play only
    2.  Marking of the ground with paint, tape, chalk, or similar products is prohibited
    3. No Skateboards, scooters, bicycles, or in-line skates
    4. No pets, glass, alcohol, gum, tobacco products, or chairs on courts
    5. Proper footwear required
    6. Limit play to 2 sets or 1 hour if others are waiting
    7. Abuse of net and/or equipment is prohibited
    8. Users are encouraged to bring their own water/beverage in a sealed container

    Lighting Controls

    • Court lights are on demand from 6 am - 10 pm.
    • Lights activate via push button for each set of courts
    • Court lights stay on for 1 hour at a time
    • Amber lights above gate turns on when 1 hour time is about to expire
    • Button can be pushed again for a additional 1 hour of Light

  • Recreation Member Swim Sessions
    1. Must present CWU Connection Card, and have valid membership with CWU Recreation, or have a valid swim pass. Please purchase swim pass at the CWU Recreation Center prior to use of the pool. A waiver must be completed prior to use of the pool. Ellensburg public may purchase a pool pass to use the pool during Rec Swim sessions, but are not membership eligible.
    2. Children ages 6 years - 15 years are allowed to join their parent, who is a current Recreation Center member for aquatic activities in the CWU Pool during designated Open Recreation swim sessions.
    3. The parent must be present and actively involved with the child in the Pool at all times.
    4. Each child must purchase a daily guest pass ($3) for each swim session.
    5. If the Pool occupancy reaches 20, parents and children may be asked to refrain from entering until occupancy decreases, so that adequate lifeguard supervision is maintained.
    6. Children age 14-17 may participate in Aquatic activities at the CWU Pool, with a parent on site and the purchase of a daily guest pass or current Recreation Center membership.
    7. Dependents age 18 years and older may participate in designated Open Recreation and Lap Swim sessions by purchasing a daily guest pass or Recreation Center membership.
