Donating to the Collection

The Museum of Culture and Environment considers all offers of objects for its permanent collections. The MCE collects a variety of objects which help to illustrate the intersection of culture and the world around us.

If you are interested in donating objects to the museum, please contact the collections manager, Lynn Bethke, at bethkel@cwu.edu. Please include a description of the object(s) you wish to donate, any information you have about them, how you acquired them, and, if possible, a digital image. If you leave your objects at the museum you will be asked to fill out a temporary custody receipt.

Potential donations are evaluated by museum staff. The Museum Advisory Council, which meets quarterly during the academic year, then decides whether to accept the gift or not.

If accepted, you will be contacted to complete a deed of gift which transfers ownership of the donation. If the museum does not accept your gift, you will be contacted to pick up your objects.

The Museum CANNOT accept the following:

  • Items for which the Museum feels it cannot adequately provide care.
  • Items which will endanger staff or visitors (ammunition, chemicals, etc.).
  • Items which are restricted by law.
If you have any questions about donating objects to the museum, please contact the collections manager, Lynn Bethke, at bethkel@cwu.edu.
