Minors in Computer Science

Overview

The Computer Science Department at Central Washington University offers a range of minors that complement students' academic pursuits and broaden their knowledge in the field of computer science.

Our Computer Science Minor provides students from various majors with the opportunity to develop a solid foundation in computer science principles, algorithms, and programming languages. This minor enhances students' understanding of computational thinking and equips them with valuable problem-solving skills that are applicable across a wide range of industries.

For those looking to apply their computer science skills in specialized areas, we offer an Applied Computer Science Minor. This minor provides students with the opportunity to explore the practical applications of computer science in fields such as business, biology, geology, mathematics, music, and more. It allows students to combine their passion for computer science with their interests in other disciplines, providing a unique and versatile skill set. Additionally, our Applied Computer Science Minor offers the option to do prescribed electives for a Teaching Endorsement, preparing students for a rewarding career in teaching computer science. This endorsement equips students with the necessary knowledge and pedagogical skills to effectively educate and inspire future generations of computer scientists.

By pursuing a minor in the Computer Science Department, students can complement their major studies and gain a competitive edge in the job market. Our minors provide a focused and specialized education that enhances students' technical abilities, problem-solving skills, and critical thinking.

Computer Science Progam Advising

Advising and student success are important components of the Computer Science programs. When you are declared as a Computer Science minor, you are assigned to a Computer Science Advisor. Your assigned Computer Science Advisor is an excellent resource if you have specific questions about your program and future career plans.
